Cape Coral woman who fatally stabbed mother while putting away dishes given 15-year prison sentence
A Cape Coral female who fatally stabbed her mom while they had been putting absent dishes is headed to jail for 15 yrs following she pleaded no contest in Lee County court.
Mariya Lynn Kelly, 22, who confronted prices of manslaughter with a weapon, was adjudicated responsible by Judge Robert J. Branning and specified an 180-thirty day period sentence on Friday. She was credited with 647 times served in Lee County Jail.
Cape Coral law enforcement responded June 17, 2020, to the 2500 block of SW Embers Terrace at 10:04 a.m. for a stabbing, according to a news launch.
A law enforcement news launch determined the suspect as Kelly and explained she experienced fatally stabbed her mother.

A Cape Coral police report said Kelly advised law enforcement she was concerned in a verbal argument with a target, later named as her mom by police, in the kitchen area.
Kelly was holding a knife that was among dishes she was placing absent. The report said she stabbed her mom with the knife just one time in the upper body immediately after the sufferer strike her on the head all through an argument.
Also in the household at the time of the stabbing were being the victim’s other two young children and Kelly’s toddler.
The Cape Coral law enforcement report explained Kelly was pacing in the entrance lawn when law enforcement arrived.
Court paperwork incorporated a police job interview with Kelly who told investigators there experienced been tension in the house for a number of times such as an argument amongst mother and daughter.
Prior to the stabbing that early morning, Kelly told law enforcement, she and her mom were once more arguing and that she was holding a knife even though placing dishes absent.
She said she informed her mother “no” when her mother explained to her to set the knife down and then the girl started to hit her on the head and Kelly “jabbed” her a single time in the upper body with the knife.
Police reported that when they advised her her mother had died Kelly appeared in shock, commenced to cry and advised police she failed to intend to damage her mother, did not necessarily mean for this to come about or her mom to die.
