What Is Sichuan pepper?
Those who are familiar with Chinese, Indian, Tibetan, Nepalese, or Thai cuisine will recognize sichuan pepper (or sichuan peppercorn). Unlike typical black peppercorns, it is actually closely related to citrus fruits from the Zanthoxylum genus, not black peppercorns as people normally think. Whole husks or shells surrounding the seeds can be ground down into a powdery spice or used in culinary preparations. 
The chilli pepper used in five-spice powder is an important ingredient in many Asian dishes. A number of the species in this genus are similar in their properties and flavours, but in the culinary arena Sichuan peppers gain the most recognition. In some cultures, dried sichuan peppercorn leaves are ground into a spice. Reddish-brown kernels are packed with a decent amount of spice, but the tang comes through more than the traditional heat or fire of a hot pepper. Circulation May Be Stimulated

Most pepper varieties are known to function as analgesics even though people associate peppers with spice and heat. Sichuan peppers contain chemicals that may occupy pain receptors, preventing the nervous system from causing pain or discomfort. Pain can’t be cured, but this is a wonderful treatment. It can be applied topically as well. 
The high zinc levels in sichuan peppers may make this potent spice beneficial to immunity. The benefits zinc has on our immune system are often overlooked and ignored. Additionally, zinc deficiency can be difficult to notice, since there are few signs.

It is important to supplement our mineral intake whenever possible as our body’s bone mineral density decreases with age; sichuan peppers are great for that.
